About

Jason Lee Smith
DJ & lighting Designer

Jason never loses focus on the importance of reading the crowd, connecting with the room and simply playing good music. He will lead and direct your guests while creating an elegant, yet fun atmosphere.

He has been in the entertainment industry for over 18 years. Music has always his passion and a driving force in his life. High school summers were spent touring the U.S. with his own independent bands. Beginning his career early, by age 16, Jason promoted several successful concerts throughout the southeast.

Seeking cutting edge entertainment experience, he moved to Hollywood, where he worked in the lighting and rigging departments on major motion pictures (Spiderman, War of the Worlds, Team America), television shows (CSI Las Vegas & Miami, The King of Queens, Everybody Hates Chris) and multiple music video productions (Ray Charles, Black Eyed Peas, Snoop Dogg).

Returning to Fairhope to live closer to family, Jason launched Southern Sounds and quickly formed one of the area's top entertainment and planning companies. He and his team provide a wide range of experience in most aspects of event production, direction, music, entertainment, video production and lighting design.

Victoria B. Smith
Wedding Coordinator

Torrie is from Southern California and decided to move to the south just a few years ago. She knew she wanted to work in hospitality as early as middle school so when she graduated high school she moved to Las Vegas, NV where she received her bachelor's degree in Hospitality while graduating top of her class.  She spent over 7 years working in the hospitality industry, including working at major hotels such as Paris and Caesar's Palace.

Always wanting to further her education, Torrie then went back to school to obtain her teaching credential.  She spent 5 years teaching high school classes such as marketing, entrepreneurship, and digital photography.

With Jason's expertise in music and Torrie's love for hospitality, they quickly joined forces to create Southern Sounds.

Their love story

For years, Jason and Torrie lived only a few miles away from each other in California but never crossed paths.  A year after Jason moved back to Alabama he had a conversation with his mom about finding the right girl.  Less than a week later in Fairhope, he met Torrie.  He called his mom the next day and told her he met a California girl and they've been together ever since.  Jason asker her to marry him and luckily, she said yes!  Torrie and Jason recently got married on November 21, 2009!

COREY SHIFFMAN
DJ & Lighting Designer

Corey Shiffman has been in the entertainment industry for over 13 years.  After graduating from the University of Kentucky, he and his wife, Candace, spent several years doing regional theater around the country then moved to Los Angeles to make a go of it in film and television.  He has acted in dozens of stage productions as well as various films and television series.  In addition to his work on stage, he also has managed productions and been involved in the lighting, sound and design of many others.

He and Candace moved to Fairhope with their daughter a couple of years ago where they continue to pursue acting opportunities as well as voiceover work and commercials. His natural enthusiasm, acting experience, adaptability and lifelong love of music made the transition to a DJ, a smooth and easy move.  He looks forward to providing the highest quality of entertainment possible for whatever event you require.

Candace Shiffman
Wedding Coordinator

Candace's background is brimming with experience involving "the big show" - ranging from Walt Disney World Entertainment to acting on set with Paramount Studios to Marketing and Development for a Los Angeles Classical Theater to Public Relations for the Honours Golf Industry in the Southeastern States. This experience has given her a firm grasp on the importance of detail, etiquette, customer care and the overall picture.  Not to mention, she loved her wedding AND her Wedding Coordinator and finds great joy in providing that for other lucky couples.

Candace has almost 20 years of experience in the entertainment industry including a decade in Los Angeles and an international tour to Japan with her husband-to-be, Corey.  She also has abundant experience with hospitality including her time at Walt Disney World and Film Research company. When her daughter, Gabriella, arrived, she relocated to Southern Alabama with her husband and met the founders of Southern Sounds who thoroughly impressed Candace and Corey with their knowledge, professionalism and just plain fun attitudes.  Candace and Corey were married in Kentucky and live in Fairhope with their 3-year old daughter, Gaby, dog Eliza and two cats, CC and Squirt.
